Before, after and while
Three ways to link two actions in time: (before), (after) and ~ながら (while). With ~てから from Everyday Japanese 1, you can describe a routine or give instructions in order. Tap to hear any line. The bar at the bottom plays a hands-free drill for walking.

Before, after, while
Each one hangs on a form you know: the dictionary form, the た-form or the ます-form. With nouns, add の.
| From | Add | Example |

- Before is always the dictionary form. Even about the past: (I called before I went to bed).
- on its own means "later". = later, OK? After a length of time it's , as in (Everyday Japanese 2).
- ながら: one person, two things. The main action goes last: is studying with music on.
