Joining a gym: fees, plans and rules
Gyms in Japan have their own system: a joining fee (), a monthly fee, plans for certain times of day, and rules about shoes and towels. This lesson gives you the words to ask about all of it, sign up and, one day, cancel. Tap to hear any line. The bar at the bottom plays a hands-free drill for walking.

- Free or not. is free, means you pay. Joining fees are often during a キャンペーン, so it's worth asking.
- Leaving takes notice. Many gyms need you to apply by a set date the month before. Ask about the rules when you join.
- 24-hour gyms. They're often unstaffed at night: you get in with your card or a key tag, and staff are there only at set hours.
- Tattoos. Some gyms ask you to cover tattoos (タトゥー, ), a few don't allow them, and many don't mind. Check the rules before you join.
