JLPT vocabulary
The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) has five levels, from N5 (the first) to N1. The lessons on this site mark the words on the JLPT lists with a small label, like N5, so you can see which ones the test expects.
Which labels to show
Your choice is saved in this browser, for every lesson.
- JLPT N5: 718 words, 364 taught in the lessons
- JLPT N4: 668 words, 268 taught in the lessons
- JLPT N3: 2140 words, 333 taught in the lessons
- JLPT N2: 1906 words, 174 taught in the lessons
- JLPT N1: 2699 words, 119 taught in the lessons
The lessons teach everyday Japanese rather than exam technique, so the words come in the order you'd use them, in sentences you'd actually say.
Word lists: Jonathan Waller's JLPT lists (tanos.co.uk), via the open-source Open Anki JLPT Decks (MIT licence). The JLPT has published no official vocabulary lists since 2010, so these are a guide, not the test's own list.
