A round of golf: booking, lunch and the bath
A day of golf in Japan has its own shape: you play nine holes, stop for lunch in the clubhouse, play the other nine, then have a bath before you go home. This lesson walks through the day, from booking to settling up. Tap to hear any line. The bar at the bottom plays a hands-free drill for walking.

The day, step by step
What happens on a typical day at a Japanese golf course, in order.
| Japanese | Means | What happens |
|---|
- Lunch in the middle. Most rounds stop after nine holes for lunch in the clubhouse. If you'd rather play straight through, ask for スループレー.
- The bath. Clubhouses have a big shared bath. Wash at the taps first, keep your towel out of the water, then soak, just like an onsen.
- Dress code. Some traditional clubs expect men to arrive in a jacket, and most ask for a collared shirt on the course. Check when you book.
